There is nothing that gives more anger
than buying a game that ends up being much worse than you expected, or doing it
and that after a few hours it enters some kind of discount and is at half
price. For these cases, today we are going to explain how to return a Steam
game , a fairly simple process that you can do with games, packs and DLCs.
We are going to start the article by explaining what the conditions are to be
able to request a refund for a game , such as how long it may have taken to do
so. And once this point is clarified, we will go step by step with the return
process.
What are the conditions to be able to reimburse
If you want to be able to return a game
on Steam, you have to meet a series of conditions for the service to let you do
it. The first is that it must have been less than 14 days since you bought it ,
and you also have to have played less than two hours to the title. Come on,
it's not worth buying it, spending 40 hours in a row to pass the game and
return it.
This time period also applies to games that you have pre-purchased . In these
cases, the period of 14 days or two hours starts counting from the launch date
of the game. These periods also apply to DLCs, gifts that have not been
activated, or packs in which none of their elements have been transferred.
Valve will also offer the ability to refund purchases made within its games
during the first 48 hours after purchase, as long as the item has not been
consumed, modified or transferred. About the rest of the games, they simply say
that it will depend on each developer, since everyone has the possibility of
activating this refund but it is not something mandatory for them.
As for the reasons, in the process you will have to specify specific reasons,
but these will not affect the return. By proxy, you can even return a game that
has just been lowered if you have not played more than the account yet. Of
course, from Steam they warn that they will be attentive to possible abuses ,
that is, they try not to systematically return the games you buy just in case.
How to return a game from Steam
To start the process of
returning a game, Steam suggests you go to the support page and start looking
for the title there. However, there is a slightly faster shortcut. To do this,
go to your Steam library and enter the profile of the game you want to return.
Once in it, click on the Support link in the right column within the game
profile.
By doing this, you will go
directly to the specific support related to this game. Once in it, if you can
return the game, the option Not what I expected will appear in the list of
problems you have. You can press this option, although it will also be worth
choosing the one of I bought this by accident .
Regardless of which of the two previous options you choose, if you bought the game less than 15 days ago and you have played it less than 2 hours, you can click on an option called I would like to request a refund . By clicking on it you will access the game return process.
Now you will see a menu in which you have to choose several options to configure the refund. In the first step, you must choose how you want the money to be returned to you . You can choose to have it refunded directly to your Steam wallet, a way in which the money will stay in your account for future purchases, or to be directly refunded in the payment method you used to buy it.
Next you will have to choose
a reason why you want to return it . In addition to choosing a reason from the
list, you will also have a Notes field in which you will be able to give, if
you want, the explanations you need.
And that's it. Once you have
completed the method by which you want to get your money back and a reason why
you want to do it, you only have to press the Send request button to send Steam
the request to return the game. Your employees will review it, and send you an
email to let you know if they have accepted it or not.
